Style and protection in one

Prescription and non-prescription sunglasses – UV400, polarisation

Sunglasses are not merely a fashion accessory – they are a means of protecting your eye health. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation without adequate protection increases the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. It is therefore worth investing in glasses with certified UV400 protection, which blocks 100% of UV-A and UV-B radiation.

At proOptyk in Szczecin we offer hundreds of sun frame models – from sporty to elegant, including designer brands. Importantly, we also produce prescription sunglasses, including progressive – for those who cannot or do not wish to wear contact lenses.

What to look for when choosing sunglasses?

UV400 protection

A UV400 certificate guarantees that radiation up to 400 nm wavelength is blocked – meaning 100% of UV-A and UV-B. A dark lens without this certificate can actually be harmful: it causes the pupil to dilate, letting more radiation into the eye.

Polarised lenses

A polarising filter blocks horizontal reflections from water, wet tarmac, and glass. It greatly improves visual comfort when driving, sailing, or walking in the mountains. Recommended wherever glare is a problem.

With prescription lenses

Spectacle wearers can order any sun frame with their own lenses – single vision, progressive, or driving. Simply choose a frame and we will fit lenses matched to your prescription.

Frequently asked questions

Ordinary tinted lenses reduce the overall amount of light reaching the eye. Polarised lenses additionally filter horizontal reflections (glare from water, wet road surfaces, and glass) that are particularly troublesome. The result is a clearer image with better contrast and no blinding reflections. Both versions can carry a UV400 certificate.

Yes – this is one of our specialities. You can choose any sun frame from our collection and we will fit prescription lenses with a tinted and UV filter. We produce single vision, progressive, driving, and photochromic prescription sunglasses.

The category indicates the degree of lens tint: cat. 0 – nearly clear (up to 20% light reduction), cat. 1 – lightly tinted (20–57%), cat. 2 – moderate (57–82%), cat. 3 – standard sunglasses (82–92%), cat. 4 – very dark (92–97%), intended for glaciers and high-altitude expeditions. Category 4 must not be used when driving.

In terms of UV protection, not necessarily – even affordable sunglasses with a UV400 certificate block radiation just as effectively as expensive ones. A higher price reflects the optical quality of the lens (absence of distortion), coating durability, frame quality, and style. Buying from an optical shop gives you the assurance that the glasses meet protection standards – unlike products of unknown origin.
