Photochromic
lenses

One pair for all weathers

Automatically adapt to changing light conditions

Photochromic lenses – commonly known as Transitions or self-tinting lenses – automatically darken when exposed to UV radiation outdoors and clear again indoors or in a vehicle. The effect is smooth and reversible: the more UV light, the darker the lens.

They are the ideal solution for people who spend time both in the office and outside, and who do not want to carry separate sunglasses. Photochromic lenses are available in single vision, progressive, and office versions – in any prescription.

Benefits of photochromic lenses

Automatic adaptation

The reaction to light happens automatically – you do not need to remember to change your glasses when entering or leaving a building. The lens adjusts its tint level to suit the current conditions by itself.

Full UV protection

Photochromic lenses block 100% of UV-A and UV-B radiation – both when clear and when darkened. Eye protection against UV radiation is active throughout the year, regardless of the weather.

One pair instead of two

Photochromic lenses eliminate the need to carry separate sunglasses. Perfect for travel, outdoor activities, or the daily commute between the office and the street.

Frequently asked questions

Modern photochromic lenses reach full darkness within approximately 30–60 seconds of exposure to sunlight. Clearing takes slightly longer – around 2–5 minutes after going indoors. The reaction time depends on temperature (they darken faster in the cold but take longer to clear) and the lens generation.

Standard photochromic lenses react to UV radiation, which is largely blocked by car windscreens – so behind the wheel they may only partially darken or not at all. However, special versions exist (such as Transitions XTRActive) that also react to visible light and work effectively inside a vehicle.

Yes – photochromic lenses are available combined with progressive, single vision, and office corrections. This is a popular choice for people over 40 who spend a lot of time outdoors and do not want to carry separate prescription sunglasses with progressive lenses.

Single vision photochromic lenses start from approximately 300–400 PLN per pair. In a progressive version the price is higher – from around 1,000 PLN upwards, depending on the manufacturer and product line. The frame cost is in addition to this. Please visit us for a consultation.
